One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to empowering children in developing countries to learn by working towards a goal of providing one connected laptop to every school-age child. According to OLPC, most of the nearly two billion children in the developing world receive an inadequate education, with one in three not completing the fifth grade.
Towards this goal OLPC has created the new XO Laptop - a $200 laptop designed specifically for children and extensively field-tested and validated among some of the poorest and most remote populations in the world. Mass production of the XO laptop began in November 2007.
OLPC offers many ways to participate and contribute. One of these is the Give One Get One program, where for a $399 donation one XO Laptop will be given to a child in a developing nation and the donor will also receive one XO Laptop. In addition, T-Mobile is offering one year of complimentary HotSpot access to all U.S. donors who participate in the Give One Get One program. Note that the Give One Get One program runs from November 12 - November 26 in the U.S. and Canada.
